The Cuisine of Suriname and the Guyanas ~ Hindu and Nepalese influences on Northern Latin cuisine
Richwood Grill is proud to announce the third dinner in our 2012 Global Feature Dinner Series, the cuisine of Suriname. The Republic of Surname is one of the most ethnically diverse countries on earth. Its cultural mix includes large populations of Nepalese and Indians, known as Hindoestanen, as well as Javanese, Indonesian, Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese and Ashkenazi Jews. There is also a substantial population of Amerindians, mainly Akuriyo, Arawak and Carib.
Suriname cuisine is primarily a fusion of Dutch, Hindoestanen and Indonesian dishes adapted to Amerindian ingredients. As the only Latin American country never under the control of the Spanish, its cuisine is unique in South America.
The dinner will use local providers such as Gardner Farms and WVU Aquaculture, as well as house grown ingredients such as lemongrass and cilantro which has been grown in our greenhouse.
The dinner features three courses for $30 and takes place Thursday, February 23rd; Friday, February 24th; and, Saturday, February 25th.
